Hatchet is a story of individual survival against great odds. It tells how a routine journey turned into a life-threatening and life-changing experience. The central character, thirteen-year-old Brian Robeson, is stranded alone at a lake deep in the Canadian wilderness after a small plane crashes after the pilot dies in flight from a heart attack. Here is your chance, 6th graders, to discuss the events of this book.

Tools
What tools does Brian make and for what does he use them? How does this accomplishment make Brian feel about himself and his situation?
The tools Brian makes are a bow,an arrow and a fish spear for hunting for hunting. A raft for getting to the plane wreck. A fish pen to get fresh food. All these tools make Brian feel beteer about being stranded.
Brian made many different kinds of tools. Some of those tools include a bow, some arrows, and a spear. With the bow and arrow he caught many different types of fish. He used the spear to catch "foolbirds" or ruffed grouse and also to catch large rabbits. Brian felt very proud and brave to have accomplished those tasks.
