Hatchet is a story of individual survival against great odds. It tells how a routine journey turned into a life-threatening and life-changing experience. The central character, thirteen-year-old Brian Robeson, is stranded alone at a lake deep in the Canadian wilderness after a small plane crashes after the pilot dies in flight from a heart attack. Here is your chance, 6th graders, to discuss the events of this book.

Title
Is the simple title, Hatchet, effective at stimulating interest and identifying the central theme? What did you think the book might be about based on the title?
Because he and his parents are the only ones that know why they are getting a divorce. When Brian found out he finally knew why they were getting divorced. Brian doesn't know why his mom would do it though.
The secret is eating him inside. The big secret is that he saw his mom in the car with another man. When brian shes his mom with another man he get angry and sad. he was very depressed.
I think the title Hatchet is a verv plain title it should have a better more catchy title so more people buy the book and read it. just by looking at the title i think its about a boy lost in the woods and has to survive a plane crash (it shows a picture of a plane and the woods) also it shows a Picture of a wolf so I think he will get attacked by wild animals.

The name from the book is called Hatchet because this boy named Brian was going to Canada to see his dad but before he got on the plane he was in the car with his mom.Then his mom gives him a hatchet then alittle after he was on the plane the poilet had a heart attack and dies.So Brian has to land the plane because it was running out of fuel so he lands it in a lake then a week or so later he wakes up at night smells something and hears someone at night in the pitch black. Then thoughs the hatchet at it and it hits a rock and makes a spark so he knows how to make a fire now. elephantsrock
I thought that the book was going to be about a person that gets attack by wovles. And the plane was because the person was going to fly a plane around a forest and find a hatchet.
I think that the title should have more pizazz! Because if the name was better more people would buy it. I think from the title that it's about a boy with his hatchet and his pet wolf.

I think the name can be a better title. Not all of the story has to dom with the hatchet. The story also features the divorce.
